A leading smart metering company partnered with the solution team to build a new platform for managing over 700 customer-specific IoT deployments. These installations were previously isolated and lacked centralized visibility. The new solution aimed to provide cross-tenant monitoring, enable centralized SLA tracking, and form the basis for a future Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model.
The customer’s legacy system stored performance data across 700+ separate databases, making centralized monitoring and analysis nearly impossible. Without unified access to service-level data, they couldn’t ensure SLA compliance or proactively identify issues. At the same time, market demand had shifted, customers increasingly expected unified visibility and proactive support. The client needed to deliver this feature to satisfy their existing base and attract new customers. The existing software stack lacked multi-tenancy, increasing operational costs and blocking future scalability.
The solution provider designed a Kubernetes-based platform with a cloud-agnostic architecture to avoid vendor lock-in. It included:
Aligned with Azure-native infrastructure to do the cloud rollout
Successfully transformed the platform into a multi-tenant architecture, setting the stage to replace 700 individual installations with a centralized system
Iterative approaches are essential when working with evolving requirements
